Living Arroyos
Living Arroyos is a unique community engagement opportunity that renews and enhances urban stream and riparian (streamside) habitats in the Livermore-Amador Valley and reestablishes the connection between people and the arroyos in their own backyards.
Program Aspects:
- Habitat restoration – Maintenance of riparian restoration sites in the Tri-Valley area through activities such as native plant installation, weeding, watering, and annual vegetation monitoring.
- Events – Regular public clean-up and restoration events where volunteers gather to pick up litter, remove invasive weeds, and plant native species along creek reaches.
- Internship – Paid internships for college students and recent college graduates to give them hands-on training in riparian restoration.
- Adopt A Creek Spot – Sub-program through which individuals, families, companies, and community groups adopt creek reaches and commit to leading occasional volunteer cleanups.
Program Goals:
- Engage residents in hands-on stewardship of natural resources while they experience nature close to home.
- Increase public awareness of important watershed issues.
- Improve habitat and water quality of local streams while maintaining and enhancing both public safety and regional flood protection.
- Strengthen public/private partnerships within the community.
